From February 24-27, 2025, Derby Public Schools participated in a community food drive to support Derby Community Family Services, which operates the Derby Food Bank. In partnership with the Derby Chamber of Commerce and the Derby Lions Club, our district and community came together to make a meaningful impact.
Our grounds staff collected donations from buildings across the district, bringing everything to one location for counting and sorting. Students from Project Life at DTEC (Derby Transition Educational Center) and Project SEARCH took the lead in organizing and counting the collected items.
Thanks to the generosity of our students, staff and families, we gathered 9,774 items. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed.
Derby Public Schools is proud to go beyond donations by helping the Derby Food Pantry expand its space to better serve those in need in our community. Our incredible Maintenance and Grounds crew came together to update flooring, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and more, ensuring a welcoming and functional space for food pantry volunteers and visitors. A special shout-out to Alvin Bouphavong, a Work-Based Learning student, who had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience by helping install new air units in the pantry.
The Derby Food Pantry provides essential support to residents within the Derby School District (USD 260). If you or someone you know could benefit, visit them at 4902 South Clifton, Wichita, KS (enter by the Oaklawn Activity Center sign and follow the drive around to the east side of the building).
